Kwatekeh Kids Bible Class

Pastor Samuel Paye, the Director of the Mount Zion Rescue Mission orphanage teaching Bible Class.

Each time Kwatekeh Africa brings clean drinking water to a community, inevitably someone will say, “Water is Life!” And it’s true. I like that saying. In general, you can survive for several weeks without food, but only three to five days without water.

But John, the Gospel writer, speaking of Jesus in John 1:4 says, “In Him was life.” Later Jesus himself makes it clear in John 14:6 that He is the way and the truth and the life. And when He visits with the Samaritan woman at the well, he says, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14)

And so, to introduce children in our area to He who is life, we have started a Saturday afternoon Bible Class. Liberians go to church but very often mix their Christian beliefs with traditional pagan beliefs. As a result their understanding of the Bible and of who Christ is, is distorted. And with an inadequate knowledge of the Bible they have no idea how far they are from God’s counsel.

More than 70 kids are coming to class, which is led by Samuel Paye, the Director of the Mt. Zion Rescue Mission orphanage that Kwatekeh supports. One of the young men who grew up at the orphanage is assisting with the instruction as well. The majority of the kids are in the six to eleven-year-old age range, with some a bit younger and some a bit older.

Liberia is a thoroughly corrupt, morally bankrupt, underdeveloped, technologically-way-behind nation that offers little or no hope for its’ citizens. Who knows but that a handful of children who find true life may one day change the course of their country. We covet your prayers for this group.
