Kwatekeh Africa Education Programs
Scholarships for Young Women: In 2019 Kwatekeh Africa introduced a scholarship program specifically for young women. In the places we work, it’s difficult for families to pay their children’s school fees. Even the $20 or so that the government schools charge per year is out of reach for many. And most students prefer the more expensive private schools.
The Beatrice G. Sackie Memorial Scholarship: The first high school graduate from the Kwatekeh Scholarship Program was Beatrice “Godknow” Sackie. Godknow was a serious, hard-working student, committed to graduating from University someday and providing for her mother and nieces and nephews. As Godknow was preparing to sit for the entrance exam at the Phebe College of Health Sciences, she began experiencing some health issues. Four months later, she passed away from cancer. The loss of Godknow to her mother and to the community was immeasurable.
To remember Godknow’s impact on her community and to honor her life and love for learning, the Beatrice G. Sackie Memorial Scholarship Fund sponsors one nursing student at Cuttington University in Suakoko, Liberia.
Godknow’s kindness and concern for others perfectly suited her to be a nurse. Kwatekeh hopes to see her dreams lived out in other young women while equipping professionally trained nurses to care for Liberians in need.
If you would like to contribute to the scholarship fund, go to the "Donate" page, click on the "Donate Now" tab and then choose the "Beatrice G. Sackie Scholarship Fund" from the "Purpose" drop-down box. Thank you!
The Suakoko Rehab Elementary School: The elementary school located at the leprosy center has a nice building but has always struggled to pay teachers. Sometimes volunteer teachers are available to fill in. In September 2025 Kwatekeh recruited full-time teachers for pre-school, kindergarten, and 1st through 3rd grades. Having teachers present in the classroom every day will be a new experience for our students.
Summer School: In July 2025, Kwatekeh conducted a month-long Summer School program for 14 students from the leprosy center. Students got intensive practice in English and Math.
Trade School: Several students have completed programs in plumbing, carpentry, auto mechanics, tailoring and baking.
Teacher Training School: Kwatekeh has sponsored students at a Teacher Training School in nearby Gbarnga. The students can move through three levels of training that equip them to teach elementary, junior high and senior high school.
